What’s your “Status?”

September 6, 2015 Posted by admin Uncategorized

I recently discovered the “On This Day” feature of Facebook. Facebook will show you your status updates on that day from last year, two years ago, and on. What I really love about this feature is that I’ve been able to look back recently on posts from several years ago and see a gradual change. A change that shows my personal growth over the past several years.  Status updates from five years ago were pretty typical Facebook posts…..what I was looking forward to that weekend, what I was eating, where I was going, and whether or not I was going to spend my entire weekend studying or at the beach. Please don’t misunderstand – there wasn’t anything wrong about any of that then, nor is there anything wrong with it now – it’s just that over the past several years I’ve grown, developed and changed. What I valued most five years ago was time off work, time having fun, time spent relaxing. What I value now most is time adding value to others, time spent preparing to add value to others, and time making a difference in the lives of others.

How we use our time today will determine the impact and the legacy we can leave on the hearts of others.

Of course, I still enjoy fun times, football and the beach, but I’m very intentional now about using my time wisely rather than squandering it all the time and I’m very intentional about the messages I choose to share on Facebook.

How we use our time today will determine the impact and the legacy we can leave on the hearts of others.

What’s your “status” today? Are you working today on your legacy for tomorrow?

Like many, Ria faced adversity in life. Ria was sexually abused by her father from age 12 - 19, forced to play the role of his wife, and even shared with other men. Desperate to escape, she left home at 19 without a job, a car, or even a high school diploma. Ria learned to be resilient, not only surviving, but thriving. She worked her way through college, earning her MBA with a cumulative 4.0 GPA, and had a successful career in the corporate world of administrative healthcare. Today, Ria is a motivational leadership speaker, TEDx Speaker, and author of 10 books, including Leadership Gems for Women. Ria shares powerful leadership principles and tools of transformation from her journey to equip and empower women, helping them realize, optimize, and maximize their leadership potential.
