Strength of Purpose – What’s your WHY?

July 14, 2015 Posted by admin Uncategorized
I was teaching a spin class yesterday and one of the participants came up to me afterward. She told me, “I really need to hear you tell me ‘You CAN do it’ because every time you say that, I say to myself, ‘Yes Ma’am I can do it!'”
When I encourage my class like that, I’m not saying anything they don’t already know. But, I am resuccess pictureminding them of their “why” for doing it to begin with. I am reminding them of the reasons they wanted to come take a class and work hard to the point of breathless. I am reminding them of their purpose for doing so.
Why is it important? Because when we have a firm grasp on our “why” we will be better able to withstand the “what.” When we are working toward something, a goal, a dream, a deadline, it often requires us to put in extra effort and energy. It will often require us to do things we don’t always enjoy doing but when we have a strong purpose and we know WHY we are doing those things, we will count them as minor obstacles to step over instead of giant mountains to climb. The size of the obstacle isn’t what changes – but the amount of determination we have does.
I love this video of Eric Thomas speaking about the Secret to Success. Even if you have seen it before, it’s worth watching again as you head into your day today!
What is your “Why” this week? This month? This year? How can you directly align your time, energy and efforts this week with your Why?
